Where did the library start?
With a box of books downstairs and a handwritten note inviting neighbours to borrow one. Soon people were leaving their own favourites. We added a small table on weekends, and the book exchange became a place to sit and talk.
Who comes by?
Retirees, parents, students and people who have lived in the block for years without meeting. Some borrow books. Others simply enjoy a cup of tea. You do not need to be a big reader to belong here.
What has surprised you most?
How small gestures grow. One neighbour fixes a shelf, another brings biscuits, and someone reads a story aloud. It is not one person's project anymore. Everyone has a little part in making the space feel welcoming.
What is your invitation to newcomers?
Come downstairs for ten minutes. Bring a book, or just yourself. Say hello first; the rest can follow.
